On Wednesday 10th September, there was a Members Business Debate in the Scottish Parliament by Stuart Mc Millan on Improving Bladder Cancer Diagnosis in Scotland.
The key focus was on improving earlier diagnosis and to encourage people across all communities in Scotland to see their GP if they have symptoms. The health inequalities relating to bladder cancer experienced by women and those in lower socio economic areas were discussed.
Lots of reference was made to Fight Bladder Cancer’s resources including facts about the disease on the FBC website and the 2024 White Paper published by FBC highlighting the Exemplar pathway to improve diagnosis and treatments for patients, the need for strengthening the workforce in bladder cancer healthcare, boosting awareness, support and information about the disease so that patients can be empowered to make the right decisions for them about their own treatments.
Our STV awareness campaign in Scotland at the end of 2024 was highly praised and there was a enthusiasm for continuing such activities in Scotland. Our work with the Scottish Cancer Coalition and the Scottish Government was also praised.
